    Rosh Hashanah Registration!

by admin on September 6, 2009

    Hi folks!
It’s coming! Soon! Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on Friday, Sept. 18. We will have services and dinner, starting at 6:30 pm in the MPR, and ALL are welcome! But you must make a reservation so we know how many will be there. Please email me to tell me if you’re coming, and don’t forget to tell me your name. (You’d be amazed how unhelpful it is to get an email that says, “I’ll be there” without a name!) Tell your friends, spread the word. Family and visiting friends are also welcome, as long as we know how many, in advance. So email NOW!
We will, of course, also be holding Rosh Hashanah morning services on Saturday Sept. 19, blowing Shofar, eating apples and honey, the works — but more on that later.
PLEASE MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS FOR FRIDAY SEPT. 18 SOON! (thanks!)
Got questions? Call my cell (201 956-828) or email me!
    L’shalom,
    David

    First SHABBAT of the Count-Down

    March 11, 2009

    Dear friends,
The Jewish calendar has a rhythm all its own. One of its features is a “count-down” that begins as soon as Purim is over (Purim was Monday night and Tuesday, a a wild and woolly Purim it was! Thanks to all who helped!) and we start getting ready for Pesach (Passover). A large part [...]

    A SHABBAT to remember!

    March 4, 2009

    Dear friends,
Purim is coming next Monday evening-Tuesday! And the Shabbat immediately preceding Purim is called Shabbat Zakhor, literally “The Sabbath of ‘Remember!’” During the Shabbat morning service, an extra little section of Torah (Deuteronomy 25:17-19) is added to the regular weekly reading. The special section starts out “Zakhor - Remember what Amalek did to you…” [...]

SHABBAT: A challah by any other name…

    February 19, 2009

Note: These are Shabbat “invitations” written each week by Rabbi David Nelson. In addition to sending them out as emails, we will post them here on the blog. Enjoy!
    Dear friends,
“Challah” (that’s “ch” as in “J. S. Bach,” NOT as in “Charlie”) is usually thought of as a sweet, eggy, almost cake-like braided loaf of bread [...]
